New Jersey Room - Resources for Local History: Donations

The Jersey City Free Public Library offers many resources for local history and genealogy. Chief among them is our dedicated staff - so please feel free to contact us for assistance!

Donations

The Jersey City Free Public Library’s New Jersey Room gladly accepts donations of New Jersey historical items, especially those pertaining to Jersey City and Hudson County. These items include books, manuscripts, maps, and photographs. We have a special interest in high school yearbooks from Hudson County schools.

The New Jersey Room is a special collections unit of the Jersey City Free Public Library system. In keeping with the Library’s mission statement, the New Jersey Room (NJR) will collect and maintain primary and secondary source items pertaining to the history of Jersey City, the greater Hudson County area, and the state of New Jersey. These items will include information about local governments, businesses, homes, schools, churches, community organizations, families, and individuals. Every effort will be made to coordinate with other repositories to avoid collection overlap and to determine the most suitable repository for unique or rare items based on maximum access and preservation care.

Hudson County consists of the following municipalities: Bayonne, East Newark, Guttenberg, Harrison, Hoboken, Jersey City, Kearny, North Bergen, Secaucus, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York. If you’d like to donate materials from or about these places, please call us at 201-547-4503 or email us at njroom@jclibrary.org.
